New airport boss targets Heathrow and Stansted airlines
01.02.10
The new boss at Gatwick hopes to poach airline customers from Heathrow and Stansted, in a taste of the head-to-head competition to come between the country's 3 biggest airports, the FT reports. There was a similar story last week quoting the new head of Stansted, who wants to poach airlines from Gatwick and Heathrow. In it he suggested Gatwick was 'effectively full at peak times.'
Stewart Wingate, who ran Stansted until he was poached by Gatwick's new owners last year, told the FT: ‘We're competing and we're pleased to be competing. There will be airlines both at Heathrow and at Stansted who will be looking very closely at what we're doing, and we'll be talking to all of them about what our plans are because that's the nature of competition.' Interesting times.
