Snow closes Gatwick
06.01.10
Heavy snowfall forced Gatwick Airport to close and caused disruption at other UK airports today. All inbound and outbound flights were suspended at Gatwick from about 2130 yesterday, with flights only expected to resume from about 11:00 this morning.
In a statement Gatwick said: ‘We are working to reopen the runway as soon as it is safe to do so. Passengers travelling from Gatwick in the next 24 hours should contact their airline for the latest flight information before travelling to the airport.'
Bristol, Exeter and Cardiff airports were also closed this morning, with all due to re-open later today as snow is cleared from runways. However, Bristol is only expected to open at noon today. Heathrow, Birmingham, Luton and Southampton are open but are experiencing long delays and cancellations.
