Snow hits flights
06.04.08
Snow grounded flights at a number of UK airports today, causing flight cancellations and delays. BA said 114 flights had been cancelled at Heathrow and 32 at Gatwick. Six inbound and six outbound easyJet flights were grounded this morning at Gatwick too. Passengers at Bristol Airport also experienced delays.
Caroline Alderson, Gatwick Airport spokeswoman, said: ‘I believe easyJet have offered to put passengers on flights to the same destinations later in the day. The runway was closed this morning for snow clearance but is now back open.’
At Bristol Airport the runways were closed for an hour during the morning to allow the snow to be cleared. This caused some delays, which will have a knock-on effect during the rest of the day and delays of up to three hours. Aircraft also had to be de-iced.
Birmingham Airport took some flights that were diverted away from Heathrow.
