Tories would axe ‘absurd’ APD bandings
07.11.09
A Tory government would axe ‘absurd’ new bandings for air passenger duty (APD) introduced this month, that make it more expensive to fly to the US west coast than the Caribbean. Conservative shadow transport minister Julian Brazier made the pledge at a Parliamentary reception.
Responding to a call from the aviation industry for a review of APD, Mr Brazier said that whatever tax is employed when his party gains power, the ‘absurd capital cities rule’ banding would be abolished. His statements came after current transport minister Paul Clark revealled that the Government had no plans to revisit APD.
