Government committee call of better flight protection
07.12.09
ATOL protection should be extended to cover all flights, not just package holiday flights, the Parliamentary Transport Committee has said in a report on the future of UK aviation. The report, issued today, calls for the ATOL levy to be increased and extended to include all flights overseas and ‘not merely package holidays’.
It says: ‘We remain concerned that air passengers are not adequately protected from airline failure. As the number of people who book flights over the internet increases, the number at risk also rises.’ The Government should also work with insurance industry to make it clear that standard travel insurance does not normally cover flights home should an airline collapse, it adds.
