Campaigners slam MPs runway call
08.12.09
Campaigners have attacked the Transport Select Committee, a Government advisory body made up of MPs from all three main political parties, after it said ministers should look again at whether a second runway should be built at Gatwick when a prohibition on the scheme expires in 2019. The Gatwick Area Conservation Campaign (GACC) slammed the MPs as being ‘out of touch with reality.’
Speaking after the Committee said a Heathrow third runway should go ahead and more thought should be given to building a second runway at Gatwick instead of at Stansted, GACC chairman Brendon Sewill said: ‘In the week of Copenhagen [the climate change summit], their proposal for two new runways - at Heathrow and Gatwick - show that they are living in a dream world.’
