Astraeus axe Canada flights; Monarch to take over
09.03.08
Astraeus will no longer provide a direct service between Canada's Deer Lake Regional Airport and Gatwick after the end of the current winter season. The final flight for the company, which provides a charter service to the Humber Valley Resort, is scheduled to depart Deer Lake for Gatwick at 19:40 on April 18. However, according to Canadian press, Monarch Airlines is to take over the service this summer.
A spokeswoman for the resort said it was important to solidify the air link, not just because it would benefit the resort, but also because the service has a major economic impact on Deer Lake and the west coast as a whole.
She added: ‘We have a formal press release with our lawyer being vetted right now, but Humber Valley Resort has signed a contract with Monarch, who will be the carrier between the UK and Deer Lake.' An official announcement is expected early this week.
