New parking / traffic marshals
16.04.08
New traffic marshals (private traffic wardens) will be introduced at Gatwick Airport on April 21. The airport says that the new marshals will 'help improve traffic flows and security around Gatwick perimeter roads and forecourts,' adding that they 'will provide assistance to the existing traffic wardens who enforce parking rules, helping to improve accessibility at terminals'.
Fraser Brown, head of commercial transport at Gatwick Airport, said: 'The new team of marshals will provide valuable support to the traffic wardens in maintaining the flow of traffic through our forecourts. By moving on parked vehicles and freeing up valuable drop off bays, delays for passengers will be kept to a minimum. Marshals will redirect drivers who are not immediately dropping off passengers to our short stay car parks in order to prevent congestion.'
In other words, those trying to linger in the forecourts for a few minutes waiting for passengers (which is free), will be moved on by the new marshals to the short stay car parks (which cost £2.30 for the first 30 minutes).
