New owner slammed over snow closures

The new owner of Gatwick has been criticised for its handling of the recent poor weather after it was twice closed for long periods due to snow and freezing temperatures this month. Airlines questioned why nearby Heathrow was able to stay throughout the recent freeze.
Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), which bought Gatwick for £1.5 billion last month, said that during the heaviest day of snow about 438 flights were cancelled. Some airlines have questioned why it reportedly only has just two snow ploughs, when other similar sized airports in Europe have three or four times that number.
