Clickair to launch Vigo flights
25.04.08
Spanish budget airline Clickair will become the first low-cost airline to fly from the UK to Vigo in northern Spain when it launches a service between Gatwick and the city in South Galicia on June 21.
The new route will operate 3 times a week, departing Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. With 60,000 travellers are expected to use the service in the first year, it will help to bring the total number of passengers passing through Vigo's Peinador airport in 2008 to 1.5 million.
Vigo is a natural harbour town in north-western Spain, close to the border with Portugal, and is regularly visited by vessels and yachts en route to Africa, Gibraltar and the Canary Islands. The warm-water Gulf Stream current means that, unlike some other Galician cities, it enjoys warm summers and mild winters.
The flights will be operated using an Airbus A320 aircraft, with fares from £30 each way including taxes.
