Gatwick to drop one bag rule
26.03.08
Passengers travelling from Gatwick will be able to carry more than one bag through security - as long as their airline also allows this - from Monday (March 31).
The government restriction limiting passengers to one item of carry on luggage was lifted at many UK airports on January 7, and at Gatwick for transfer passengers from last month. However, its overall restriction remained in place while new x-ray equipment was installed in the central search area. The work has now been completed, so the rule will be relaxed from next week.
However, some airlines operating at Gatwick - such as its biggest airline, easyJet - have chosen to continue with a restriction of one item of hand baggage. Passengers are advised to check with their airline before travelling to the airport.
