Ryanair slam easyJet in Mugabe ad
27.07.10
Ryanair has taken another pot shot at rival easyJet's flight punctuality with another tasteless ad. Its latest offering claims that Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe is easyJet’s ‘new head of punctuality’. The ad follows recent figures showing fewer easyJet flights took off on time from Gatwick Airport last month than flights run by Air Zimbabwe.
The use of Mugabe’s image is controversial, as his 23-year-long presidency has been marked by the murder and torture of political rivals and a huge decline in life expectancy and standard of living for the country’s population. The ad ran in The Guardian, and a spokesman for the newspaper said: ‘We are not aware of any complaints about the advert.’
