Police investigate laser incident
30.08.10
Police are investigating the third report of a laser being shone at a plane landing at Gatwick in less than a week. A Sussex Police helicopter was scrambled shortly after 23:00 on Saturday after a red beam was directed at a plane.
Last week police were also called to trace the source of the laser directed at two descending planes but no one was found. The beams came from the East Grinstead area. All three aircraft landed safely.
A police spokesman said: ‘Shining a laser at an aircraft can interfere with the crew as they carry out important processes and cause danger. It is a serious criminal offence and we are investigating.’ Anyone who has information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 607 0999.
